A 21st Century Makeover
Kittery’s Victorian-era Rice Pubic Library has been a beloved institution since opening in 1888. Now, the Rice is undergoing a 21st-century transformation: a renovation and expansion that will create a larger, fully accessible, more efficient, and safer Library in one location.

The grand opening for our 21st-century library will take place in 2022 when Kittery celebrates its 375th anniversary as Maine’s oldest town. The Taylor building will remain open during construction. The renovation and expansion of the library will increase the total space to approximately 15,500 square-feet (from 9,900 sq. ft.) and will bring collections, program space, and support areas into a single facility.
